This was a piece of art in the lobby of the church, and Oboe & Mandolin
This past weekend the University of Kentucky Oboe Studio held a recital as a farewell to our Oboe teacher, Nancy Clauter, and to raise money for the Multiple Myeloma Foundation. If you read the previous post about Nancy, you know that she is leaving the University of Kentucky due to her illness and moving to Arizona. The recital was originally planned for March 9th, 2012, but had to be cancelled due to severe weather moving in the the area that evening. The Oboe students then rescheduled the recital for the next evening at a different venue. We all met at Central Christian Church in downtown Lexington. The cozy recital hall was packed with Nancy’s students and friends and the room featured an alter of Mother Mary with hot pink lighting above. The concert featured all pieces played the Oboe students. There was some traditional Oboe repertoire, along with some fun tunes, and a couple of religious hymns. At the end of the concert, current and past Oboe students of Nancy gathered to play Handel’s Fireworks as a celebration piece. You may listen to the piece through this YouTube link. After the recital we all met at a reception and watched a photo slideshow the studio put together with messages from her students. It was also fun to visit with friends and past teachers who I hadn’t seen in a long time. The recital collected $1500 for the MMF foundation.
Here we were posing with our funny expressions.
